Country Women’s Association State President Heather Allen enjoyed an opportunity to take a peek inside the Greenbushes CWA’s historic cottage headquarters during a recent tour of the South West.
Mrs Allen, who lives in Geraldton, had previously passed through Greenbushes and been intrigued by the old weatherboard building which was transported into town by horse and cart in 1936, where it has remained as the organisation’s meeting rooms.
Members of the Greenbushes and Bridgetown CWA branches were present for the visit.
Mrs Allen was keen to meet members of the newly formed Greenbushes “Belles” which is a sub-group to the Greenbushes CWA formed to enable participation by women who can only attend night-time or evening meetings due to family or work commitments.
Mrs Allen said the “Belles” group was an illustration of how rural women were keen to adopt the values of the Country Women’s Association while adapting to suit changing needs.
“The CWA in Western Australia is still going strong and it will continue to do so while we have younger women ready to get involved and take up the mantle,” Mrs Allen said.
