A special event planned for Bridgetown will celebrate International Women’s Day.
The day is recognised throughout the world on March 8, with events organised to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
Blackwood Youth Action is organising a breakfast to give local residents the opportunity to reflect on changes that have occurred over the decades for women and to some stories of how some local women have achieved success.
South West Region MLC Hon Robyn McSweeney and local musician Tracey Barnett will join with Talison employees Angela Robertson, Helen Brooks and Stella Iacopetta to talk about their backgrounds and some of the challenges they have faced to reach where they are now in their lives.
Support from Talison will enable Bridgetown High School Year 10 girls to attend.
Blackwood Youth Action Youth Services Coordinator Tanya Beechey said the event would be a wonderful opportunity for students to mix with women from diverse backgrounds.
“The energy from being in a room with a group of predominantly women is electric,” she said.
“I believe the Year 10 girls will get a lot out of this event.”
The breakfast is open to women and men to attend, with tickets available through the YEOp shop in Bridgetown at a cost of $35/head which includes a hot buffet breakfast.
