Mandurah seat summary
Veteran Labor MP David Templeman will be seeking his fifth term representing the seat of Mandurah.
First elected at the 2001 election, Mr Templeman will be up against last-minute Liberal Lynne Rowlands, who stepped in when former candidate David Forbes resigned over controversial posts on social media.
Mandurah is now considered safe Labor territory and Mr Templeman is credited with the transformation of the seat which was held before 2001 by Liberal Roger Nicholls.
The local campaign has been dominated by health policy, with both Labor and the Liberals promising to fund the building of a youth health hub in Mandurah. Mr Templeman has committed to funding GP down south’s Three-Tier Youth Mental Health program, while the Liberals will trial a new $1 million hospital-in-the-home program.
But the Mandurah electorate has a traditionally high One Nation vote and Mr Templeman was elected in 2001 on the back of their preferences. This time around Pauline Hanson’s One Nation candidate Doug Shaw will be preferencing the Liberals following a high-profile visit to the city by Senator Hanson on the Monday before polling day.
The seat takes in the suburbs of Barragup, Coodanup, Furnissdale, Greenfields, Lakelands, Madora Bay, Mandurah, Meadow Springs, North Yunderup, Parklands, San Remo, and Silver Sands.
