To help fans locate some of the buildings that appear in Jasper Jones, the South West Development Commission has worked with stakeholders to produce a free handy guide to filming locations.
Filmmakers spent six weeks in 2015 shooting scenes for the motion picture in the historic timber town of Pemberton, making the most of local mill houses, laneways and towering trees.
SWDC acting chief executive officer Anna Oades said people were encouraged to use the brochure to help them “follow in the footsteps of Jasper Jones”.
“Pemberton shines in this movie and it is not hard to see why. It really is a special place in our wonderful region that has plenty to interest visitors,” she said.
“We invite people to take the time to see where Jasper Jones was filmed and explore what the town and surrounding areas have to offer.”
Directed by Rachel Perkins, the movie features a stellar cast including Toni Collette, Hugo Weaving, Levi Miller, Angourie Rice, Dan Wyllie and Aaron McGrath.
It tells the story of Charlie Bucktin, a bookish boy of 14 living in a small town in WA.
In the dead of night during the scorching summer of 1969, Charlie is startled when he is woken by local mixed-race outcast Jasper Jones outside his window.
Jasper leads him into the forest and shows him something that will change his life forever, setting them both on a dangerous journey to solve a mystery that will consume the entire community.
The story Follow in the footsteps of Jasper Jones with a map first appeared on Busselton-Dunsborough Mail.
