Nannup’s Chestnut Brae farm has won the Harmony Agriculture and Food Co award for Innovation in Agriculture.
Linda and John Stanley purchased Chestnut Brae four years ago.
The couple soon realised most West Australians were unaware of the sweet nut and did not know what to do with the product.
As a result one of the first pieces of equipment they purchased for the farm was a Korean chestnut peeling machine, they believe this is the only commercial peeling machine in the state.
Once they could peel the nuts they then had the opportunity to value add and to provided West Australians with a range of different products.
John and Linda believe that the key to success in a boutique farm such as Chestnut Brae is to look at ways to add value to the core product.
