Access to technology is making the Yallingup and Margaret River region one of the State’s premier holiday hotspots.
Telstra research has identified that technology is changing the way that Western Australians choose their holiday destinations with many people indicating they are anxious about being out of mobile range and frustrated at being unable to post their fabulous holiday snaps.
The findings highlight that mobile coverage has emerged as a key deciding factor for these holiday nomads and the Yallingup and Margaret River region ticks all the right boxes when travelling within the State.
Telstra’s Area General Manager Boyd Brown said 52 per cent of those interviewed will only holiday in areas with guaranteed mobile coverage.
“So it should come as no surprise that 92 per cent of these sun seekers pack their mobile phones along with their sunscreen before setting off,” he said.
“It’s all about staying connected, with more than 70 per cent of us checking social media to see what friends and family are up to, and two-thirds using the phone to see what’s happening in the news.
“Interestingly, Western Australian’s are some of the most trusting in the nation with 50 per cent relying on a photo or recommendation they saw on social media in order to pick their holiday destination.”
To meet this demand Telstra has undertaken a holiday hot spot blitz with dozens of popular locations, such as Yallingup and Margaret River, receiving upgraded services or new coverage ready for summer.
“Every year we see more and more demand for mobile services on beaches, national parks and camping spots around our spectacular State,” he said.
“Yallingup and Margaret River is a mecca for holiday makers with its magnificent beaches, wineries, bush settings and laid back lifestyle.
“So it’s critical that people have the mobile coverage so they don’t miss a moment.
“To meet this demand we’ve installed new towers and boosted capacity on our local mobile network.”
