BROOKHAMPTON local Rebecca Collis has gained access to local training opportunities in her chosen profession, thanks to a naturopathic college opening in Eaton.
Previously the only option for students of naturopathy was a certificate IV in massage at South West TAFE, but that course shut down last year.
Balingup woman Sana Turnock, who is to be the head of operations for the South West at the college, said there had been a big gap in training opportunities in the region.
"There was nothing here in government-accredited qualifications," she said.
"There is the opportunity now for people to become generally qualified in natural therapies."
The establishment of the collage came about after Ms Turnock talked with the director of the Australasian Academy of Wellness about the lack of opportunities.
The director agreed to set up the college in Eaton.
Miss Collis, who will be a student at the college when it begins classes in semester two, has completed her certificate IV and is just starting units for her diploma.
This semester she will be studying theoretical units to lighten her load in semester two.
