An aspiring sound production student from Donnybrook won the opportunity to intern as a sound technician at the recent Splendor In The Grass music festival at Byron Bay.

For 19-year-old Sam Ellard the opportunity to work alongside the hottest bands around for one epic party weekend was a chance too good to give up.

The competition was on offer by SAE Creative Media Institute Perth where Mr Ellard studies a diploma of sound production.

Sam Ellard said the internship with the festival was an experience he’ll never forget.

“At Splendour I had the opportunity to help setup and talk to members from some of my favorite bands. Seeing Gang of Youths play absolutely blew me away,” he said.

“I was able to get some really good practical advice from sound engineers working the festival. Just being on the ground and getting myself out there was incredibly valuable for me in terms of moving forward with my career as a ‘front of house’ sound engineer.”
