St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Donnybrook has taken first prize in the Donnybrook Home Hardware & Garden school garden competition.
The school picks up a $100 voucher for its efforts in the competition which saw it vying in a number of categories with other schools throughout the district.
Capel Primary School was runner-up in the best school garden category and received a $50 voucher which we suspect will be put to use improving their garden even more: their sights will be set on St. Mary’s.
The encouragement award and a $25 voucher went to Kirup Primary School, whose garden impressed this reporter on a recent drive through town.
Boyanup Primary School took the best peas on a tripod category and also produced the highest pea plants at 180cm, with Capel at 130cm.
Competition in all categories was fierce, but so were appetites.
The pea counting competition didn't transpire as Mead Street confessed to pulling and eating their plants.
A great win when fresh vegies come before prizes!
There was going to be a competition for the number of peas in the pods, but counting was impossible because Mead Street had pulled and eaten their plants!
