Saxon Steele Vitali, 24, from Kirup faced Bunbury Magistrates Court on Friday morning charged with murder.
Police allege Mr Vitali was involved in an incident in Kirup on July 14, 2017 that left a 56-year-old man from Manjimup with critical injuries.
The victim was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital and died there on Tuesday, July 25.
Mr Vitali was originally charged with committing an offence intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
Further investigations from the police saw that charge discontinued on Friday with a charge of murder entered in its place.
Mr Vitali had the murder charge read to him by Magistrate Joe Mignacca-Randazzo. When asked if he understood it, he simply replied “yes”.
Mr Vitali sat silently in the dock throughout the rest of the proceedings, at times putting his head in his hands.
The murder charge was remanded to Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on August 30 with a charge of criminal damage adjourned to Bunbury Magistrates Court for August 31.
Mr Vitali blew a kiss to his family sitting in the public gallery as he was led back into custody.
