A woman convicted of stealing from her employer while in the grip of methamphetamine addiction will have to do 80 hours of community service work.
Kathy Lee Courcha faced Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday, October 27 for sentencing on 38 stealing as a servant charges.
She had previously pleaded guilty to all offences which happened between December 17, 2016 and February 15, 2017 at Miami Bakehouse on Forrest Highway while Courcha was the duty manager.
The total amount stolen by the 32-year-old was $4510.
The court was told Courcha stole cash on 38 separate occasions, taking sums from less than $100 to more than $200 each time.
Her lawyer said Courcha had “methamphetamine issues” and had been supporting her household at the time of the offending.
Courcha, who now lives in Donnybrook and works in retail, has repaid $2000 of the money she stole from the bakery.
She was described as remorseful and has undertaken a number of counselling sessions.
“She was not making the right choices,” her lawyer said.
Courcha also participated in victim-offender mediation with her former bakery employer.
Magistrate Anne Longden placed her on a 12-month intensive supervision order with program requirements.
As well as the community service work, Courcha must also repay the outstanding sum of $2510 to Miami Bakehouse.
She was warned to remain offence-free throughout the supervision order, or risk being re-sentenced on the matters.
