On Saturday, November 4, two teams of students from Donnybrook District High School ventured to Perth to compete in the WA Electric Vehicle Challenge.
The team was accompanied by Donnybrook SHS Design and Technology teacher Len Strother.
The students were part of the school’s engineering program which incorporates the EV Challenge into their course work.
The students worked in small teams to design and construct an electric vehicle with the aim of competing against other teams in the state final.
One team, Donnybrook Bravos, completed 34 laps of the track (approximately 40 kilometres) and finished in 3rd place.
The Bravos team members were Callum Gray, Shaun Butterly and Jake Thompson.
The Donnybrook Big Rigs – featuring Nick Keenan, Jakob Fawcett and Orion Forsyth – was one lap behind and finished in 4th place.
The Big Rigs also won an engineering award for Best Ergonomic design.
This year’s EV Challenge featured 38 entries across Western Australia.
