The search for a missing man in Bridgetown has ended in tragedy, after his body was located in bushland.
Bridgetown Police Sergeant Phil Nation said they located the body of the 30-year-old Irish man near his rental vehicle in bushland off Tweed Road, on Thursday December 7, 2017.
“The man was last seen when he booked into Bridgetown accommodation on Tuesday, but he failed to return to the property and was later reported missing,” he said.
“A land search and rescue was commenced in the areas surrounding Bridgetown on Wednesday before he was located by SES search dogs on Thursday morning.”
The man’s death is not suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Sergeant Nation said the death highlighted the importance of mental health issues.
“This is a very sad outcome, which highlights the importance of keeping in touch with family and friends to check on their wellbeing,” he said.
“The festive season is a high risk time for anybody who is suffering from a mental illness or feeling alone, which is often accentuated by everyone else’s celebrations and togetherness.”
