Manjimup is on the threshold of a new northern town site entrance with the construction of a new roundabout set to direct traffic into the central business district.
Contractor TRACC CIVIL Pty Ltd commenced construction on Monday, February 19, with the project expected for completion in late May 2018.
Surveying works were completed earlier this year.
The Royalties for Regions and Main Roads WA funded project is a major component of stage two of the Town Centre Revitalisation Project designed to transform the northern front of the town and draw visitors into the town centre.
The proposed roundabout and realignment of Giblett Street, to connect directly with Mottram Street (South Western Highway), will provide a direct link from north east Manjimup into the town centre without traffic having to divert onto the highway.
Shire of Manjimup president Paul Omodei said the Town Centre Revitalisation Project will deliver significant traffic flow benefits as the town expands.
"The design will provide an entry statement that will attract passing traffic into Manjimup's town centre,” he said.
“The entry statement is critical to providing confidence in the town, which is important to stimulating economic investment opportunity in the region.
"This project will create a safer and more defined entry into and out of the Manjimup town centre, the roundabout will be supplemented by visual cues to the central business district, including improved signage and landscaping.”
The shire has worked closely with Main Roads WA in the design phase of the roundabout.
Main Roads WA will have a project officer on-site throughout the construction process.
