Sheep producers are invited to have their say about Western Australia’s livestock research and development priorities at a series of workshops over coming weeks.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and the WA Livestock Research Council (WALRC) will conduct their industry consultation efforts separately during the workshop in an effort to ensure future research and development activities are commercially relevant and drive innovation.
Industry workshops are scheduled on 12 March in Badgingarra, 14 March in Pingelly, 19 March in Bridgetown and 6 April in Mukinbudin.
Senior development officer Mandy Curnow said the department was inviting input from industry in the development of sheep research, development and innovation (RD&I) plan investment priorities for 2018-2025.
“The department collaborates with universities, across government and with sheep producers in research aimed at increasing on-farm productivity and profitability, so it makes sense to consult with our key stakeholders on key priorities,” Ms Curnow said.
“Some of the draft themes for investment are incremental or transformational.
“Where possible, we’ll aim to deliver more value to industry by using our existing strengths, but investing in new skills and knowledge may also be necessary.”
The main method of gauging feedback will be via the workshops in March and April but stakeholders unable to attend are invited to contribute via an online survey.
