The Bridgetown Football Club hosted Brownlow medallist Dane Swan and West Cast Eagles club champion Glen Jakovich last week during the first training session of the season.
The legends spent some quality time with the junior club members before entertaining the footy club’s senior members during an amusing evening of storytelling.
Dane Swan told the youngsters about the importance of respect, commitment and to persist with their career, as it can take a long time to become the best in elite sports such as AFL.
Bridgetown Junior Football Club chairman Justin Davies said it was always great for the junior players to have football legends visit and spend time with them.
“All the kids loved to see Dane Swan and Jacko at the club and they all asked lots of questions,” he said.
“There was also plenty of opportunity for everyone to get photos taken with their heroes.”
Mr Davies said it was the third year in a row that the football club had hosted AFL players and it always went down well.
With the football season starting up, registrations are open and everyone is welcome to play.
The Bridgetown Junior Football Club is also on the lookout for a number of female players to join its ranks, with the club looking to expand its options for young girls looking to play footy.
Davies said the junior football club had a great season last year and he was looking forward to getting back into it all again for the 2018 season.
“We have a great season coming up, on the back of last year’s 8/9s winning the grand final,” he said.
“We are really looking forward to seeing everyone out there having a run around and the supporters helping in any way they can.
“It has been a really good response so far with players registering this year and we have had a positive number of young girls wanting to play football in Bridgetown, so we are very keen to help them along this exciting journey.”
The first game of the footy season bounces down on Saturday, April 7, with a home game in Bridgetown.
