The Shire of Manjimup is participating in the West Australia Local Government Alliance – RoadWise’s Blessing of the Roads campaign and asking the community "what is an acceptable level of road trauma?".
By asking this, the Shire wants to challenge the belief that road trauma is inevitable and, in turn, generate support in local road safety initiatives.
On March 28 at 2pm, the shire will host a Blessing of the Roads event to showcase local road safety initiatives.
A blessing of the roads will take place in Allambie Park, corner of Mottram and Ipsen Streets Manjimup and will be followed by afternoon tea the Shire's Community Information Office in Brockman Street.
“The Blessing of the Roads campaign provides an opportunity to remember that road trauma is preventable,” Shire president Paul Omodei said.
"Road safety is about working together and the Blessing of the Roads campaign is reminding us that we should not accept that anyone should die or be seriously injured on our roads.
"This Easter weekend, we are asking everyone to think about the number of deaths and serious injuries they are willing to accept and that we can achieve zero.”
Remember to:
- Plan ahead if drinking - arrange a skipper, organise a ride or stay overnight.
- Travel at a safe speed by driving to the conditions of the road and obeying the speed limit.
- Buckle up when travelling in a vehicle.
- Take a break or swap drivers to prevent fatigue. Visit one of the many Driver Reviver and Coffee Stop locations around the state.
- Turn off your mobile phone before driving.
