Local vegetable farmers will benefit from a new project designed to increase WA vegetable exports to key overseas markets.
The three-year project, spearheaded by vegetablesWA, will help upskill vegetable growers to become export ready and tap into the global demand for quality produce.
VegetablesWA CEO John Shannon said there was a huge amount of work being done to help West Australian growers access overseas markets.
Across Australia vegetable exports increased by eight per cent in the 2016/17 financial year, with significant growth in Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Japan.
“We see strong potential for WA growers to access these markets,” Mr Shannon said.
“The purpose of this export project ... is to increase WA vegetable exports by supporting growers to capitalise on these commercial business opportunities.”
The project is being undertaken in partnership with Growcom and the Tasmanian Fruit and Vegetable Export Facilitation Group.
In addition to export facilitation, WA growers can access other helpful services through vegetablesWA, such as benchmarking and quality assurance.
