The Augusta Margaret River Hawks had a tough ask on Saturday when they hosted the league’s best team in Donnybrook.
While it was a home game for the Hawks, Donnybrook had control of the round 11 match from the start.
The Hawks had limited scoring opportunities in the first quarter with just two behinds.
Donnybrook had double the amount of shots on goal but were not completely accurate with one goal and three behinds.
The second term saw Donnybrook charge ahead with four goals and four behinds while the Hawks only managed one major before the main break.
Donnybrook had their chances to put the home team away in the third quarter but were again inaccurate in front of the big posts.
They kicked two goals and four behinds while the Hawks pegged the margin back slightly with three goals and two behinds.
The last quarter saw much of the same from the ladder leaders with two goals and five behinds.
AMR also managed two goals but didn’t apply enough pressure to take the game over.
The final score was 6.6(42) to 9.16(70).
AMR now sit sixth on the ladder and are just a game behind the 2017 premiers Bunbury.
Next week will see a league bye with Landmark Carnival set to take place up in Perth and Mandurah.
The Hawks will have another tough match after the bye when they travel to Hands Oval to face South Bunbury who are second on the ladder.
