The Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup will be hosting events to celebrate WA Seniors Week happening this week.
From November 11 – 17 Seniors Week is a time of celebration for Western Australian seniors, with events and activities held across the state to acknowledge seniors and show our appreciation for their valued contribution to society.
A total of 78 South West community groups and local governments secured a State Government Seniors Week 2018 Community Grants Program to help fund the events.
The program allocates grants of up to $3000 which were administered by the Council on the Ageing WA, with support from the State Government and Lotterywest.
Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray said these events recognise the tremendous contribution that seniors make to our community.
“Seniors Week encourages all generations to come together so I hope everyone in our community is inspired to get involved,” Mr Murray said.
“It’s a time to acknowledge and honour older Western Australians, and that is exactly what we’re doing with these wonderfully varied Seniors Week events.
“As a regional Member of Parliament, I am particularly pleased to see so many of these grants supporting events and activities in regional communities and I encourage all Western Australians, regardless of age, to get involved in Seniors Week.”
