Donnybrook’s first Twilight Christmas Markets held on Friday, December 7, was a huge success.
With late night trading, cafes and restaurant's open, local handcrafted arts and crafts, plants, fresh produce, children's activities and bouncy castle, live entertainment and much more, everyone found so much to be delighted with.
Of course when the very popular gentleman Father Christmas, accompanied by the Bendigo Bank Piggy, arrived by fire truck, he was soon the main centre of attraction by the many children eagerly waiting his arrival.
People filled the stall packed areas from Donnybooks through to the Tourist Information Centre, where live entertainment was continuous. Footpaths were also used for interesting stalls.
The judging of the Donnybrook Chamber of Commerce Christmas display had taken place the night before, and the winners from the businesses that entered were Donnybooks in first place, Ginger Gold second and Donnybrook Bridgestone Tyres coming in third. All entrants are to be congratulated on their wonderful displays.
Businesses stayed open and benefited greatly by doing so, with continued patronage from customers.
Chamber of Commerce president Rowan Lowe said the event exceeded their expectations
“It was a terrific community effort, all working together and everything ran smoothly, and the community benefited. All are to be congratulated,” he said.
Chamber of Commerce secretary Carol Evans said they were happy with the first markets.
"With the success of this night, we look forward to holding the event each year,” she said.
Although the night officially ended at 8pm, some stalls were still busy until later which was great to see.
Congratulations to everyone involved in every way, on such a terrific event.
