Six Donnybrook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service members have been awarded a Volunteer Service Award for many years of dedication for their service.
Locals Dave Hutchinson, Dennis Scoullar and Russell Jones, who stood down as captain in 2016 after 22 years were acknowledged for their 29 years of service. Garry Davis was acknowledged for his 28 years of service, Allan Morgan for his 34 years of service and Brian Marsh for his 45 years of service.
Across the state, 53 long-serving volunteers were recognised at this year’s Volunteer Service Awards, presented by the Governor of Western Australia, Hon Kim Beazley AC.
The ceremony coincided with International Volunteer Day 2018, which promoted the theme 'Volunteers build resilient communities'.
Volunteering Minister and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray thanked all of the six award recipients for their combined 194 years of service between them.
“These volunteers have contributed to the community in a tremendous way, both individually and as a team,” Mr Murray said.
"The Volunteer Service Awards is an important means of thanking our volunteers for their efforts in building resilient and connected communities.
"International Volunteer Day is an opportunity to recognise and raise awareness of the outstanding contribution made by volunteers across our State.
"The actions of volunteers make a difference to so many, so often, and can influence and benefit a community for a long time."
