The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party insists it doesn't want to change gun laws in NSW, as it seeks to become a "force for good" in the bush.
The minor party is set to secure three seats in the state's lower house, on the back of massive swings against the Nationals in the western NSW electorates of Barwon and Murray.
"We've seen a political opportunity in what's going on with the bush," NSW Shooters MP Robert Borsak told the ABC on Tuesday.
"We see ourselves as a party that can do what the major parties - which are basically city, in this case Sydney-oriented - haven't been able to do."
In the last week of the campaign, the Liberals warned voters that Labor's preference deal with the Shooters could lead to weaker gun laws.
Former prime minister John Howard was wheeled out to shoot home the message, which was criticised for its proximity to the Christchurch terror attack.
Mr Borsak described the strategy as "disgraceful and disgusting" and said his party does not want to wind back Australia's gun laws.
"I don't think that's ever been a situation as far as we're concerned. We don't see that as an issue," he said.
"They have been working well for a long period of time, certainly since 1996. We never did ask for a situation that we saw in New Zealand - that's not the situation we want to see in NSW."
He said the Shooters weren't a race-based or religion-based party, but a "party of freedom".
