Local young talent will start their careers in energy generation as they embark on exciting apprenticeship paths at Synergy's Muja Power Station.
Hailing from across the South West Jed Wilkosz and Rohan Bam will begin electrical apprenticeships while Blake Stingel and Aaron Dexter will begin mechanical apprenticeships at the local power station in 2020.
All four apprentices will spend the next four years learning in both on and off the job training environments and be allocated a mentor to assist their development in the complex engineering environments as part of the apprenticeship program.
Entry level programs coordinator Sarah Lewis, who manages the Muja Apprenticeship Program, said she was proud of the tradespeople the young apprentices were becoming.
"Synergy believes this program is vitally important and beneficial to both the local community and to our business," she said.
"The development which our apprentices receive is of a very high standard and we are extremely proud of the quality of tradespeople that emerge at the end of four years at Muja."
The apprentices will join graduates of the program Corey Gulvin and Bianca Benton who completed their Certificate IV in Engineering (instrumentation) as part of the program and now continue to work at the Muja Power Station.
Energy minister Bill Johnston congratulated the apprentices for entering the program.
"Synergy's apprenticeship program generates employment opportunities for young people in the South-West, including the Collie region," he said.
"It is great to see these young people develop into quality tradespeople, and further contribute to providing a vital service to Western Australians - electricity generation."
Since 2015, Synergy has employed 20 apprentices through the program, with 16 of them coming from the Collie region.
Synergy chief executive officer Jason Waters said the Muja apprenticeship program was extremely important for the future of the organisation.
"Our apprenticeship program provides great opportunities to young local people to develop the skills and capabilities necessary for long and successful careers either within Synergy or in the wider community," he said.
Synergy apprentices have continued to win prestigious awards including First Year Apprentice of the Year, Third Year Apprentice of the Year, Excellence in Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical) and Apprentice of the Year - Engineering.
