The Disabled Surfing Association held its last event of the season at Bunker Bay on Saturday March 6, 2021.
Although it was cloudy, it was a lovely warm day with waves appearing on the dropping tide.
There were 33 participants who travelled from as far as Perth and Manjimup to enjoy the day with 66 volunteers who helped out in the waves.
66 volunteers, mostly young, helped out in the waves.
Joining the action was Forrest MP Nola Marino who donned her cossies and dived in to have a ball helping out.
"The surfing gives the participants the excitement of freedom of movement. Everybody was having fun," she said.
"It's the same as at Riding for the Disabled. The volunteers do a wonderful job."
DSA SW patron Kevin Merrifield attended and handed out medallions for best wave, best wipeout, most stoked and best volunteer.
Association President Ant Purcell said it was a very good year when you consider all the obstacles in place and missing out on the February event because of COVID-19.
Many branches around Australia had to cancel events due to the pandemic.
Mr. Purcell thanked all sponsors.
The annual general meeting will be held at Eagle Bay Brewery at 11am on Saturday, March 20. New committee members are most welcome.
