BALINGUP is set to come alive on July 14 and 15 for this year's Telling Tales in Balingup, a fabulous storytelling event perfectly suited to primary school children aged from four to 13.
Held in the middle of the July school holidays, this weekend of storytelling, creative writing workshops, illustration workshops and bookbinding sessions offers families a wonder weekend of interactive fun.
Last year's parade of much loved book characters included the Queen of Hearts, Peter Pan and Captain Hook, who was a real hit with the children.
The parade is being expanded this year and will take place on both the Saturday and Sunday from 12.30-1.30pm.
A host of published WA authors and illustrators including Deb Fitzpatrick, James Foley, Eileen Forrestal, Gabriel Evans, Sonia Martinez and David Caddy will present interactive workshops throughout the weekend.
Multiple of sessions are on offer at any given time so people can select a session which best suits them and their children. The popular film-making workshop for 10-13-year-olds will be on offer again this year.
In this three-hour session participants will learn how to tell a story through the visual medium of film-making.
The instructors are using the community film-making protocol from famed Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Be Kind, Rewind director Michel Gondry.
Children will also be able to learn the art of traditional book binding and take home their own book.
