The South West town of Boyup Brook will get a glimpse of the race that stops a nation with the chance to see and hold the iconic Lexus Melbourne Cup tomorrow as part of the 16th annual Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour.
The regional town will be the only location visited on the tour in Western Australia, besides from Perth.
Upper Blackwood Agricultural Society Secretary Sue Titchmarsh said the community was looking forward to coming together to celebrate the iconic trophy.
“We look forward to welcoming the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour to Boyup Brook and can’t wait to share the magic of the People’s Cup with the community,” Mrs Titchmarsh said.
The day will have a range of events running throughout as it celebrates this once in a lifetime opportunity for the town.
The cup will be proudly carried on a vintage horse-drawn carriage which will lead horses, riders and vintage cars in a street parade through the town centre from 10:30am.
The tour includes visits to the Boyup Brook Soldiers Memorial Hospital and Boyup Brook Citizens Lodge, where residents will have the opportunity to get up close with the 18-carat gold trophy.
Other events to follow include the Flemington High Tea and Flemington Fling Gala Evening, followed by a Race Night where guests can enjoy a night of fun filled entertainment.
Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Chief Executive Officer Neil Wilson said the club was looking forward to bringing the magic of the People’s Cup to Boyup Brook.
“The Lexus Melbourne Cup holds a special place in many people’s hearts and it is only fitting we take the iconic three-handled Cup on a journey to meet the people who share in our love for the great race,” Mr Wilson said.
The tour started on July 10 and visited the UK and Ireland before heading back to Australia and will continue on New Zealand and for the first time visit South Korea, before making its way back home to Flemington for the big day on the first Tuesday in November.
Since its inaugural year in 2003, the tour has travelled more than half a million kilometres and visited more than 400 regional, rural and metropolitan destinations, providing communities with an opportunity to experience the magic of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
