Bridgetown’s longest serving doctor has received the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service, The Medal of the Order of Australia.
Dr Nigel Jones, 77, has over 40 years of experience in all aspects of general practice, with his interests in anaesthetics, dermatology and women’s health just an example of his exemplary skills and talents.
The Welsh-born former British army medic followed his brother to Australia in 1970, before taking over the Bridgetown Medical Practice in 1972.
In the early years, Dr Jones was the only GP within 50 kilometres but now he leads a busy practice which employs eight doctors.
The Queen’s Birthday Honours List recipient received the medal, for service to medicine, from WA Governor The Honourable Kim Beazley, at a ceremony held at Government House on Friday September 7.
“I think it is very nice to receive the recognition, I am very pleased,” he said.
