Rennes' unbeaten record in the French league has come to an end with a 2-1 home defeat to Angers.
The result leaves Rennes in third place behind table-toppers Lille - who are now Ligue Un's only unbeaten side - and defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Things started brightly for the hosts, who took the lead through Adrien Hunou in the 17th minute, but Angers equalised nine minutes later when winger Sofiane Boufal struck home after latching onto striker Stephane Bahoken's pass.
The visitors took the lead in the 57th minute thanks to midfielder Angelo Fulgini's opportunist effort.
Rennes missed chances in the last five minutes as Angers held on for a win to move up to sixth place.
Marseille and PSG will look for confidence-boosting wins after poor performances in the Champions League this week.
Sixth-placed Marseille, who lost 1-0 at Olympiakos, are at Lorient, while PSG hope to make up for their 2-1 home defeat by Manchester United, when they take on last-placed Dijon at Parc des Princes.
